Everything is pretty much the same, Alexandre Aja continues to waste his talent on contrived scripts. The absurd premise predictably evolves towards a single meaningful non-absurd denouement. This then arrives, relatively timely, so that for a while the film seems to build to a rather chilling ending on top of it. But instead of a hard-hitting finale, there's a tiresome attempt to question that meaning once or twice more. Overall, it's certainly watchable, with fine acting and a few functional horror scenes, but don't expect a true genre event. ()
Halle Berry and her sons are hiding in the middle of the woods from an evil that can hide behind any tree. But it gets a little more complicated than that, as danger can come from elsewhere. Alexandre Aja delivers a fairly atmospheric horror film with some fine scares and a chilling atmosphere, but it is tripped up by a screenplay that tries to play it on all sides and keep the audience guessing for so long that it becomes tiresome.
