Karin Julsrud was educated at the Norwegian School of Journalism (now a part of the Faculty of Social Sciences, at Oslo and Akershus University College of Applied Sciences). She has a varied background as, among other things; host for a youth television program Halvsju for the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation NRK, producer and director of various television series' and radio-programs (also for NRK), co-author of the book "Prohibited for Young People" (1982) and former commissioning consultant for feature films at the Norwegian Film Institute and the Norwegian Film Fund.
She made her debut as a feature film director with the thriller Bloody Angels in 1998, but is perhaps most known for her efforts as a producer. She produced her first film, Lime, in 2001, and joined the production company 4 1/2 in 2005. Since then she has served as producer on several box-office hits and critically acclaimed films, such as Reprise (2006), The Liverpool Goalie (2010) and King of Devils Island (2010).
