María Novaro

Born in Mexico City in 1951, she studied film at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México. Her debut feature film Lola screened at the Berlinale in 1991. Her second feature Danzón premiered at the Director's Fortnight in Cannes and brought her international recognition. She has written the screenplays for all her films, three of them in collaboration with her sister. Since 2006 she has also produced her films. She claims that her three children Mara, Santiago and Lucero and her three grandchildren Andrea, Dylan and Jacinta are the most important part of her biography.
