James Harper (Chris Pine) é involuntariamente dispensado das Forças Especiais do Exército e acaba por perder a sua pensão e o seguro de saúde. Endividado e com a família para sustentar, acaba por assinar um contrato com a uma equipa militar privada, juntamente com o seu melhor amigo (Ben Foster) e sob o comando de um colega veterano (Kiefer Sutherland).
