Father of the Cyborgs

The documentary focuses on the career of neuroscientist Phil Kennedy, who captured the attention of the professionals as well as the public in 2014 after having electrodes implanted in his brain. The film describes Kennedy’s life and scientific work, including the invention of the neurotrophic electrode, which marked a turning point in the communication of, for example, paralysed and ALS patients in the 1990s. In addition to the complex issue of the brain and experiments, the film outlines the pitfalls of scientific work as such. It also explains the motivation behind Kennedy’s experiments on himself. It does not shy away from the ethical questions associated with this decision, but leaves it to the audience to provide their own answers. (Academia Film Olomouc)
