Jeanne du Barry é livremente inspirado na vida de Jeanne Bécu, que nasceu como filha ilegítima de uma costureira pobre e subiu à corte de Luís XV para se tornar na sua última amante oficial. A famosa cortesã viveu um relacionamento escandaloso na corte de Versailles com o rei Luís XV, monarca conhecido pelas suas extravagâncias e inúmeras amantes. Como Condessa du Barry, Jeanne foi oficialmente apresentada ao Rei, que se apaixonou perdidamente e imediatamente por ela. Em 1769 foi incluída com pompa e circunstância na Corte, gerando escândalo, inveja e animosidade. Essa história trágica promete ganhar nova narrativa na visão de Maïwenn. Com a distância de 230 anos, possivelmente teremos uma Jeanne menos julgada, mas, infelizmente, igualmente trágica. Uma mulher que conseguiu superar todos obstáculos, menos o julgamento da sociedade. For regular viewers of pre-revolutionary France, it's just another piece of the beloved puzzle. Du Barry (1743-1793) became a very popular figure inspiring popular culture even during her lifetime. After novels (Alexandre Dumas, Zweig...), there were, of course, operettas and films. Maïwenn's approach is not bad; once again, it's opulent, a bit spicy, thrilling, and, above all, a clever spectacle. But Johnny Depp and Pierre Richard? A big disappointment. Unfortunately, without them, it wouldn't be possible to build such prominent promotion for the film because who would go see classic period films without famous names today, right? Purists would like to see the life of Du Barry even after leaving Versailles, so hopefully we get that sometime in the future.
