The film, depicting life in the tenement houses of Angyalföld in the thirties joins the neorealist currents of Hungarian film. Ambrus Pista, the good humoured, attractive tram conductor is loved by women for his excellent job as well. With his lover, the street-walker Terus they spy upon the neighbour as he beats his wife in jealousy. Pista falls in love with the pretty, suffering young woman and he conquers her slowly, through tiny little compliments. One day the unexpectedly returning husband finds him in the flat. In his drunken wrath he beats him in front if the eyes of the whole house so much, that Pista lies in bed for days. The once merry young man becomes apathetic just like the other tramps of Angyalföld. (texto oficial do distribuidor)
