A childhood turned inside-out, seen through the eyes of a young boy. We follow Jeremiah and his prostitute mother Sarah into a world of drug dens, shotgun shacks, fleapit motels and strip joints, populated by predators, junkies and criminals. Subjected to a succession of deadbeat surrogate fathers and Sarah's descent into madness, Jeremiah is forced into a desperate struggle to survive, to retain the pure, enchanted vision through which he views and transforms his world.
