The Body

In this message film about the struggle between politics and religion, a priest is sent to Jerusalem to investigate the remains of what could be the body of Jesus Christ. An Israeli archaeologist named Sharon (Olivia Williams) analyzes an ancient tomb discovered by a Palestinian shopkeeper who was digging in his backyard to build a basement under his shop. Tensions begin to mount between the Israeli and Palestinian communities when scientific research reveals that the remains resemble those of the unrisen body of Jesus Christ. The Vatican sends the Reverend Matt Gutierrez (Antonio Banderas) to look into the legitimacy of the findings and also to alleviate some of the growing worry in the Christian community. But the situation is more dangerous than anyone could have predicted and the lives of the shopkeeper, Sharon, and Matt are all threatened as Sharon gets closer to proving the relevance of her discovery.
