Hinterland

In the middle of the 20th century, the first workers’ quarters appeared in Gijón with the aim of providing accommodation for the growing mass of workers who came to the call of employment in the local industry. These dwellings were no longer the unhealthy slums of previous decades. At last, despite the initial shortcomings, the working class now has a decent home, a refuge where they can regain their strength at the end of the day after a hard day’s work and where the fight to improve their situation is a daily struggle.
