For many Palestinians, the year 1982 was the start of an on-going nightmare. In September of that year, the Palestinian camps Sabra and Chatila were invaded by Phalangists and many people were brutally murdered. In that period, the French writer Jean Genet (1910-1986) stayed in Beirut, close to the camps. After the massacre, he spent four hours in Chatila and what he saw and heard there left an indelible impression on him. More than a year later, he started work on a new book, after not having written anything in twenty years. Un captif amoureux, in which Genet describes his experiences with the Palestinians and their struggle for freedom, would be his final book; while correcting the proofs, the author died of cancer. In this film, actress Mounia follows Genet in his footsteps, thereby reconstructing an important episode from his life. (International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam)
