The endearing boorishness of the protagonist – or rather of the whole series – could have easily resulted in a festival of jokes about falls, farting and disabilities (in a way different from that of the main character). As it stands, however, it is actually a rather tasteful and, thanks to the fragmented structure (frequent flashbacks) very brisk series that in its brightest moments I wouldn’t shy away from describing as a satire on the American way of life and thinking.
