Os vencedores de Emmy Kenneth Branagh e Cynthia Nixon protagonizam a história verdadeira mas pouco conhecida da evolução física e espiritual do homem que viria a ser presidente. Warm Springs acompanha Franklin Delano Roosevelt (Branagh), deixado paraplégico pela poliomielite em 1921, com 39 anos, a procurar uma cura milagrosa no interior da Geórgia rural. Enquanto a esposa Eleanor (Nixon) enverga o manto do Roosevelt público, Franklin luta contra o estigma da poliomielite e encontra pessoas afetadas não só por esta deficiência mas também pela pobreza, iliteracia e racismo. Com o passar do tempo, aprende que embora possa não voltar a andar, ainda pode liderar. Em Warm Springs, com a ajuda de uma terapeuta dedicada (Kathy Bates), Mahoney, e, eventualmente, do seu principal assessor (David Paymer) e da esposa, um futuro presidente de quatro mandatos encontra a sua alma pessoal e política. The fact that HBO decided to turn the story of Franklin D. Roosevelt into a movie is definitely very commendable. There is nothing to be said against the quality of this movie. And given that it’s a TV movie, the story isn’t too bad either. You see, the authors decided to put politics aside and create a story about how Franklin got a clean soul. After I saw this movie and admired the excellent performance given by Kenneth Branagh, who undergoes quite a development over the course of the movie, I have a similar opinion of this president as every American who lived in his era. Well, it’s hard to say how many people who lived in his era are still alive today, but it they were around, they would confirm that Franklin was definitely worth it. He learnt how to be human… and that’s something not every statesman can do.
