Sometimes getting a goat is as good as gold. When a Polish community was struggling to provide its citizens with the basic milk and cheese, it came up with an original twist to social welfare. Instead of money every person was presented with a goat. Most of the recipients had lost their jobs to the post-soviet collapse of the large agro-factories. This donation from the Wroclaw University of Agriculture is meant to help people help themselves. As often happens, the beginnings are difficult. Man and goat do not always get along. Not only are goats voracious creatures, they also happen to possess a certain bullheadish character. Slowly but surely, however, the relationship between the goats and their owners begin to blossom.
