Before 1989, many topics were a taboo in Hungary. One of them was homosexual orientation. Many people still believe that there were no gays and lesbians in Hungary at that time. In 2009, Hungarian director Mária Takács made a documentary about the life of lesbians before 1989. She reckoned on personal testimonies of several women as well as on the historical setting of the stories confided in her by the women. She aimed to show that despite the effort to suppress and eliminate the existence of any non-heterosexual models of partnership, lesbians and gays have not disappeared from Hungarian society. She thus implicitly pointed out that some practices have been restored in Hungary. (Academia Film Olomouc)
