França, década de 1920. Thérèse, é uma adorável e espirituosa jovem mulher que casa-se com Bernard Desqueyroux, que é seu vizinho, transformando assim as suas respetivas terras numa grande propriedade. Bernard tolera a personalidade e as opiniões fortes da sua brilhante esposa, mas ela vê-se logo sufocada pelo tédio da sua vida provincial e pela mediocridade inteletual de seu marido. Ela sonha com o a efervescência cultural de Paris e começa a procurar uma maneira de revolucionar a sua vida. (RTP)

While watching this movie, I agreed with the reviewer Enšpígl in many ways. Not only does the story of Thérèse Desqueyroux stretch like a hairy dumpling in the mouth, it is also really boring. But even so, the film has certain qualities. For example, the camera shots of the French countryside were flawless. Audrey Tautou was nice, too, although her character would benefit from being a bit livelier. Well, the fact is that the creators of this film turned it into a chick flick. For this reason, the film reminded me a little of the equally strange French movie The Well-Digger’s Daughter.
