Cornelia tem 60 anos e, essencialmente, é infeliz: o filho, Barbu, de 34 anos, luta com todas as suas forças para se tornar independente. Saiu de casa, tem carro próprio, uma namorada que, obviamente, Cornelia não aprova e – o que é mais perturbador – evita a mãe tanto quanto possível. Quando Cornelia descobre que Barbu esteve envolvido num acidente trágico, o seu instinto maternal é maior e ela serve-se de todos os seus talentos, dos amigos bem colocados e do dinheiro para salvar Barbu da cadeia. Mas a fronteira entre amor maternal e manipulação interesseira é ténue. Será ela capaz de o libertar e deixar crescer…? (Alambique Filmes)

Overall, quite a sucker-punch, mainly thanks to the excellent performances. A harrowing Romanian drama. I didn’t feel like singing after watching it. (KVIFF 48)

The Romanians once again proved they can manage a pretty decent family drama. It makes a different impression than the ones from the Scandinavians, but it still keeps a very solid realistic foundation. In this case, the foundation is a very rough premise that realistically deals with thinking of a person who causes misery but especially with their mother, around whom the whole story revolves and who is the most interesting part of the movie. The creators do not suggest anything and immediately kickstart the psychology of the character in a way I haven’t seen in a movie for a very long time.
