Sinopses(1)
Shimazu's first all-sound film, this melodramatic adaptation of Josef von Sternberg's "The Docks of New York"(28) features silent film era stars Oka Joji and Muzitani Yaeko. In the early days of talkies, it attempted to evoke port town atmosphere and gang action through the use of sound. When his ship enters port, boilerman Sakata saves a woman named Sato who tries to commit suicide by throwing herself into the sea. She is hardheaded, but gradually opens up to him. When he tries to protect her from her pursuers, Sakata finds himself embroiled in violence. (Shochiku)
