It's 1960 and Nigeria is preparing for independence from British colonial rule when chief inspector Dan Waziri is sent to the little town of Akote in western Nigeria. His job is to capture the serial killer who is murdering young women there. The town is plunging deeper into fear and desperation with every victim. Waziri is faced with a great challenge, and he has a deadline – the case must be solved before the British flag is lowered and the country gains independence. Kunle Afolayan is one of Nigeria's most recognised directors and October 1 is both an exciting thriller and a vital contribution in order to understand a dramatic period in the country's history.
