A realizadora Icíar Bollaín e o argumentista Paul Laverty voltam a encontrar-se depois de Even the Rain, em A Oliveira do Meu Avô que nos conta a história de Alma, uma jovem de 20 anos, voluntariosa e divertida, que embarca numa viagem de Espanha à Alemanha para recuperar uma oliveira milenar que foi vendida contra a vontade do seu avô, há 12 anos. Para Alma, o avô - que deixou de falar desde essa altura e que agora se encontra doente - é a pessoa mais importante da sua vida e ela acredita que esta oliveira é a única coisa que o poderá salvar. Com a ajuda de amigos e novos conhecidos, ela consegue mobilizar todos para a realização do seu plano, com consequências inesperadas para os envolvidos. (Filmin)

At first we learn that a there is this Spanish family that lives with an olive tree. Then they take the tree away because part of the family decides to sell it. That ushers in a period of animosity and hatred while all of the sudden the granddaughter of the guy who planted the tree shows up and decides to show him that family roots don’t just die out, so she sets out on the most boring road trip to Germany, where she discovers the tree that is now as big as a house and that couldn’t be transported even using the biggest Caterpillar machine. So, out of spite, she climbs the tree (if nothing else) and she sits there until the cops remove her. End of story. A poetic drag of the most Spanish kind.
