Set in an idyllic mountain town overrun by migrant oil workers from a nearby fracking facility and swamped by a rising tide of crime, Tin Star tells the emotionnaly charged and sometimes funny tale of Jim Worth (Tim Roth), a good-humored, teetotal family man and zealous police chief, whose peaceful life is shattered when a newly arrived gang of criminals murder his infant son in a botched attempt to assasinate him. This act – and the shameful responsibility Jim bears for his own cowardice when he ducks to avoid the assassins bullet combined with his refusal to aknowledge the past triggers Jim's alchoholism. And Jim's alcholism takes the form of an alter-ego: a hard-drinking, charming, deceitful and ruthlessly violent past self, called Jack Devlin. (HBO Europe)

Tin Star (2017)

inglês I’m rating the series after having seen only two seasons, because I can’t find the will to continue watching. The story follows the fate of the Worth family, but the plot is often lacking in logic. It is full of unrelatable characters who often behave as if they suffered from schizophrenia, so not even Tim Roth and Christina Hendricks could save this. A huge disappointment. ()

Season 1 (2017) (S01)

inglês I managed to finish Season 1 which makes me really proud. I decided to watch this show because of Tim Roth and Christina Hendricks, but after the first season, I regret my decision. The script was quite decent in the beginning, but with an increasing number of episodes, it quickly ran out of steam. There wasn’t a single character I could relate to. The worst thing is that I have the second season ahead of me, so whiskey will be flowing again tomorrow... ()

Fun and (S)laughter (2017) (S01E01)

inglês The pilot episode left me with mixed feelings. At times, it seemed like the creators were trying a bit too hard, cramming in plot elements that felt a bit tired and overdone. While the sheriff isn't grappling with divorce and custody battles, they substituted in alcohol, spawning the first of many clichés. You can bet there'll be trouble brewing over the refinery/incinerator/power plant/factory/mine (take your pick), likely revolving around economic interests. I'm just hoping we won't also have to endure a Greenpeace subplot because of Anna. Still, I have to give a shoutout to Christina Hendricks for her standout performance. ()

The Kid (2017) (S01E02)

inglês Christina Hendricks delivered once more (seriously, we need more of her), but the storyline left me feeling pretty let down. The characters' actions were just plain bizarre throughout, and by the final stretch, I was seriously questioning the writers' judgment. ()

Comfort of Strangers (2017) (S01E03)

inglês Under different circumstances, the constant time shifts might have thrown me off, especially if the creators hadn't been so diligent about indicating the time. But surprisingly, this episode was the most dynamic one yet, and I found myself quite enjoying it. 3*+. ()

Jack (2017) (S01E04)

inglês Despite my best efforts to give the series a fair shot, it just hasn't grabbed me yet. I'm still waiting to be drawn into the storyline in the way I'd expect from a top-notch production. Sure, there's plenty of intrigue and action scenes, but somehow it all feels a bit bland and uninspired, despite the creators' best efforts. ()

Bait (2017) (S01E05)

inglês Up until now, I've managed to justify giving the show a three-star rating (except for one episode). But with this one, I just couldn't do it anymore. It felt like some Canadian distillery bankrolled the whole production. I found myself intrigued by the bizarre behavior of the characters, and frankly, a bit put off by the decision to showcase certain actresses more than necessary. And let's not even get started on Mr. and Mrs. Worth, who seem to have weirder tastes than the creators of Japanese porn. ()

Cuckoo (2017) (S01E06)

inglês The sixth episode didn't grate on my nerves like the last one did. Sure, there were a few hiccups along the way, but I overlooked them until that scene with the car choking. Now, I've choked a few times before (seriously), and let me tell you, when you're gasping for air, the last thing on your mind is taking your glasses off or fixing your outfit. ()

Exposure (2017) (S01E07)

inglês Not even Christina Hendricks' presence could salvage this one for me. The plot delivered more bizarre scenes that just didn't add up. Take the meeting between Elizabeth and Jaclyn, for instance — it felt unbelievably silly, to the extent that I wondered if the creators were poking fun at me. ()

This Be The Verse (2017) (S01E08)

inglês Well, if this keeps up, I might just have to give this a boo! rating. This episode was a pile of nonsense, giving me flashbacks to the chaos of series like Banshee. The whole "rescue the princess (read: brainless idiot) from the clutches of a creepy biker" ordeal was quite the experience. Honestly, I think it'd be a mercy for Anna (and everyone else, viewers included) if her mom just took her to some romantic place out in the woods and put her out of her misery. And can we talk about how Jim/Jack somehow looks like a million bucks after getting pummeled by ten bikers? Oh, and Louis' fight against overwhelming odds? Just plain bad. ()

Fortunate Boy (2017) (S01E09) Boo!

inglês This episode had all the potential to shed some light on the story, but instead, it just piled on more weirdness. Didn't entertain me much, but hey, at least it confirmed that Angela's turned on by the weirdest stuff. I mean, she probably wouldn't even flinch if Jim/Jack wiped himself off with the curtain after sex. And Malcolm's reaction to being stabbed? Priceless. Dude just brushed it off like it was nothing :-DDD ()

My Love Is Vengeance (2017) (S01E10) Boo!

inglês I swear, either the creators are pulling my leg, or Canada's become some kind of murder-and-torture playground. I mean, shoot someone on the street in broad daylight and nobody bats an eye — life just carries on (unless you're the one getting shot). And don't even get me started on how annoying Anna is. I'd welcome a hungry grizzly bear over her any day. ()

Season 2 (2019) (S02)

inglês The only positive thing for me about the second season is that it’s finally over. The plot (if there was any) was pointless, the problems that got more attention than the issue of global warming and were being dealt with over the space of five episodes were suddenly gone just like that, only for a new (even more pointless) problem to arise. I will avoid the potential next season like the plague. ()

Prairie Gothic (2019) (S02E01)

inglês Man, I'm not sure if Rowan Joffe wrote himself into a corner by the end of the first season and is now scrambling for an exit strategy, or if he's just really into shrooms and acid. But after watching the first episode of the second season, I'd say it's probably a bit of both. The storyline went off the rails, so I only threw in a star because it managed to crack me up a few times, even if that wasn't exactly the goal. ()

Something Wicked This Way Comes (2019) (S02E02)

inglês Let's talk about this rating. Yeah, it was cool to see Christina Hendricks, but honestly, that was the highlight. Other than that, I struggled to find anything positive. Angela's mental gymnastics could only make sense if she'd just had brain surgery. ()

Resist Not Evil (2019) (S02E03) Boo!

inglês I hate to say it, but this time I just couldn't hold back. The second season has been a disaster from the start, and now they've thrown religious nonsense into the mix, pushing it over the edge for me. Most of the conversations felt pointless, the story crawled along like a sick turtle, and the plot went absolutely nowhere. ()

Consequences (2019) (S02E04)

inglês The star of this episode is Elizabeth, hands down. She brought some intriguing elements into the mix. I'm genuinely curious about what those scenes with Rosa's rodeo were all about — I just don't get it. If it was about stretching it out, then I guess I understand. I can't think of another reason. ()

Jack and Coke (2019) (S02E05)

inglês I gave this episode my highest rating yet in this season. Now, the story didn't suddenly get better — the writer still seems to have his head stuck in his ass — but there were two things I enjoyed about this episode. First, the girls from the paintball team, and second, the visit to Randy's bar. ()

The Bagman Cometh (2019) (S02E06)

inglês You know what? This conversation was the highlight of the second season for me. Just six people chatting in one room gave me more than all the action-packed yet ultimately meaningless plots of the five previous episodes combined. I'd be even happier if it weren't for Ann's annoying moralizing. ()

Age of Anxiety (2019) (S02E07)

inglês What was that supposed to be? It reminded me of a horror movie I saw years ago, where if someone answered a call from a certain number, they died within a few days. Here, it felt similar, things went fast with the stripper and sniper while Jack just... well, it looked like he wet his pants, like a five-year-old in the previous episode. Pretty dumb, if you ask me. ()
