A juíza Ruth Bader Ginsburg fez história em 1993, durante a presidência de Bill Clinton, ao torna-se a segunda mulher e primeira judia a ocupar um cargo no Supremo Tribunal de Justiça dos EUA. O seu percurso profissional, apesar de brilhante, foi pautado pelo esforço em superar uma tripla condicionante: o facto de ser mulher, mãe e judia. Muito devido a isso, dedicou-se a causas feministas, tendo sido cofundadora do projeto dos direitos das mulheres na União Americana pelas Liberdades Civis, durante os anos 1970.
