Londres, 1982. Patrick Melrose, com 23 anos e apanhado num vício insaciável de heroína, voa até Nova Iorque para recolher as cinzas do pai. Apesar de garantir ao seu velho amigo, o também viciado Johnny, e aos seus dois amores, Debbie e Julie, que fará uma desintoxicação em Nova Iorque, espera-o um fim de semana de deboche. Enquanto vasculha os passeios de Manhattan em busca de uma pedrada, Patrick é perseguido pela recordação da crueldade do pai e da negligência da mãe. No decurso da sua estadia, encontra velhos conhecidos: Anne Eisen, uma velha amiga a quem fazia confidências; a bela e inalcançável Marianne Banks; e os seus antigos traficantes, Chilly Willy e Pierre. Após um velório desastroso com os amigos do pai, Patrick força-se ao limite com um cocktail de drogas e álcool e o desejo de suprimir o passado. (HBO Portugal)

“What's the point of a fucking window if you can’t jump out of it?” In a different mood, it is possible that I would be bothered by how much the whole thing is done for effect and that it is basically the “Quaalude scene” from The Wolf of Wall Street stretched out to an hour-long runtime, but with its darkness, nihilism and cynical humour, Melrose suited me to a tee and I can’t wait for the next episode. In addition to that, Cumberbatch is in top form, the style precisely corresponds to the protagonist’s level of sobriety and whatever is running through his head, the pace practically never lets up and the musical accompaniment comprises great songs like “Wild World” by Cat Stevens.
