From a few surviving images from the Finnish film Fallen Asleep When Young (1937), an other-worldly melodrama is distilled. Passion, deeply human, now digitally reanimated. Van Ingen’s examining eye goes to the very limits of what these few deteriorating faces, the last minutes of Teuvo Tulio's nitrate film, may reveal. (International Film Festival Rotterdam)
