(Midas Filmes)

inglês Mark Cousins took a relatively unorthodox approach to this movie - as an open letter to Orson Welles. He addresses him countless times, asking him questions and trying his best to immerse himself in the master's soul - sometimes aptly, sometimes rather awkwardly, sometimes perhaps even boldly. Orson Welles himself responds to this letter during the course of the movie. This concept is the backbone of the movie and at the same time its weakness. It presents a very subjective view of the life of a famous director (through his drawings and sketches, which were pretty much insignificant), but  all the effort of meditating on the soul of such a complex person such as Welles, is undoubtedly overshadowed by actual valid facts, which the documentary probably should have been based on as that is what audiences want. Moreover, Welles's answer is just a dream and made up by the writer and as such is an unsubstantiated addition to be able to humorously conclude the project. All this lasted almost two hours, which is really too much time to spend on this type of subjective navel-gazing. [KVIFF 2018] ()
