Franck é bombeiro sapador na cidade de Paris, onde vive com a sua mulher grávida de gémeas no quartel. É um trabalhador dedicado, orgulhoso e graças ao seu afinco consegue mesmo passar a chefe do departamento de combate a incêndios. Numa intervenção, Franck sacrifica-se para salvar os seus homens, mas não consegue salvar-se a si. Depois de semanas em coma, acordará no centro de tratamento da Ala de Queimados e depressa compreenderá que o seu rosto e corpo sofreram danos irreversíveis. Será o recomeçar de uma vida, sem a certeza de recuperar o mais importante que tinha antes do acidente. (Outsider Films)

I really enjoyed the first half hour showing the daily routine of firefighters in Paris. However, Through the Fire then turns into a heartbreaking and emotionally draining drama about a testing situation that adversely changes a firefighter’s life forever. At that moment, it is a biased drama about a public servant’s tragedy, which begins to drag slightly towards the end. Maybe the main character is too corny, verging on clichéd (a successful young man with a loving wife and two small children). Also, he irrationally stays in an environment, where an ordinary firefighter would not set a foot near it (as soon as flames are swirling around the ceiling above you, you are definitely in the wrong place, I learned that from The Towering Inferno, which is almost 50 years old, and I am not a firefighter). So, it is basically an over-simplified drama that deals more with the effects of an unfortunate accident than its causes, which watching it held no surprises for me, and therefore it was not to my liking.
