Huachicolero

  • USA The Gasoline Thieves

Conteúdos(1)

Living with his mother and working as a farmhand in his hometown, fourteen-year-old Lalo (Eduardo Banda) sees buying a smartphone for his high-school crush the only surefire way into her heart. When his mother is forced to use his savings in order to pay for medical bills, Lalo decides to approach the local huachicoleros for help, who quickly enlist his aid in their business of illegally siphoning gas in order to take advantage of the country’s shortage and re-sell on the black market. As Lalo naively becomes more involved with the huachicoleros’ work, an uneasy air of violence begins to overtake the world around him, while investigators narrow their search for those responsible. inglês This is a Mexican social drama about the desperation of the destitute in society, and the thin wall between that and rampant crime waves. The main character is a boy who sees a way to make some money fast by joining a gang of gasoline thieves, without fully appreciating how dangerous the situation he has put himself and people he loves into is. The movie continues in the predictable way anyone could see right from the beginning, and does not present any major plot twists or shocking jaw-dropping moments. The audience gets a healthy dose of social criticism, but other than that, Huachicolero has nothing else that makes it memorable. [Sitges 2019] ()
