This is one of the feel good music stories of the decade. In 2012, Daniel Antopolsky's future manager, Jason Ressler, discovered the never-recorded, lost legend of Outlaw Country Music, aged 65. He was farming in France, living with a wife and twin daughters, and prolifically writing music with the fading hope someone would one day hear his songs. As Ressler says “he had 500 of the best songs no one had ever heard”. After years of more struggle, Antopolsky has released 4 albums, played all over the world, gotten major media attention, and continues to leap forward. The film fortunately has been there to cover it all. We see Antopolsky’s life on the farm, understand his tough childhood, and how he feels he literally escaped death by leaving the music industry as a young man. Then he goes to Nashville and it’s completely nerve racking watching Antopolsky attempt to record his first album with Grammy winning producers and top musicians while he plans his first concert in over 40 years. The result of this all is an uplifting tale of musical redemption of a truly wonderful, lovable, and certainly complex artist and character who exudes a magical and unique authenticity.
