Em uma realidade distópica, dez pessoas são controladas por um governo autoritário. Elas não se lembram quem são ou de onde vêm. Elas sequer têm nomes: os homens são identificados por números ímpares e as mulheres, por números pares. Um líder onipresente, chamado de O Grande Zero, aplica regras rígidas quanto ao comportamento dos habitantes. Mesmo com todo o controle, um bebê nasce inesperadamente, perturbando a ordem vigente. O diretor Oleg Sentsov dirigiu o filme de dentro da cadeia: até setembro de 2019, ele cumpriu pena, acusado de terrorismo, ao se opor ao governo da Rússia. Por meio de cartas, ele coordenou a direção, que foi executada no set por Akhtem Seitablaev. (São Paulo IFF)

I don't mind that the plot is set in theatrically stylized settings, as long as the film's concept resonates with me. In a metaphorical representation of a kind of totalitarian dictatorship, Oleg Sentsov points to the real danger that arises from the euphoria that the rebels possess when they succeed in overthrowing the hated regime. As suggested here, it may ultimately be the beginning of an even more monstrous domination than the previous one. Numbers is worth watching, at least for its powerful final minutes, which send chills down the spine. (65%)
