Tibor and Niki, father and daughter. The young girl was only five years old when they last saw each other, before Tibor was sent to prison. He is released seven years later and tries not to think about the past. Yet he can’t erase his daughter from his life and so they are compelled to start over from the beginning. Excelente parte técnica e um ótimo trabalho dos atores, mas o enredo central sobre a aproximação de membros alienados da família não é nada que não tenham visto antes. Eu dou um cuidadoso polegar para cima, mas já me sinto cansado de valorizar os temas repetidos cem vezes só porque são filmados duma maneira gira pela centésima primeira vez. [KVIFF 2021]

Giving a movie a low rating just because someone has made something similar in the past seems to me totally unfair nowadays. After all, there's not much new to invent and where on earth can you find themes that haven't yet been made into films. The most powerful stories are usually written by life itself. Talented Hungarian director Hajni Kis found inspiration in her own childhood. Her debut feature film, Wild Roots, is very well directed, shot and narrated, and is dominated by the excellent performances of the central figures of Gusztáv Dietz and Zorka Horváth. And the soundtrack, which almost perfectly captures the atmosphere of the environment in which the story takes place, must not be overlooked. (80%)
