Em Stadtallendorf, cidade alemã com uma história complexa no que concerne à integração e exclusão de estrangeiros, o professor Dieter Bachmann oferece aos seus alunos a chave para o sentimento de pertença. Com idades entre os 12 e os 14 anos, os estudantes são provenientes de doze países diferentes e alguns ainda não dominam a língua alemã. Bachmann está empenhado em inspirar estes cidadãos-em-construção com o sentido de curiosidade para que tenham vontade de desenvolver um vasto conjunto de saberes, disciplinas, culturas e opiniões. Overall, a fine documentary that gives a pretty good idea about Germany's more or less successful efforts to educate the children of immigrants, who often can't even speak German, but there's certainly no reason to sit through the nearly four hours of it. And I wonder how many successful classes like Mr Bachmann's there are in Germany. Everything works pretty seamlessly for him, and from my perspective it would be more interesting to look somewhere where things grind a bit more.

This was the best 3 hours and 37 minutes of schooling I've ever experienced in my life. This observational documentary may be heavy on the runtime, but the story of an old teacher who teaches different cultures to find a common ground is extremely accessible and kept me there with no trouble. Mr. Bachmann loves his class and you will love it too.
