Okja (2017)

inglês I'd rather see a sequel to Snowpiercer or a similarly themed film from Bong Joon Ho, because this family adventure tale didn't sit so well with me. While the idea is both interesting and original enough, it carries a certain message and focuses on a global problem of our time, almost nothing happens that could please the viewer's eyes. But I give it a thumbs up at least for the decent finale, which is sad and intense at the same time, yet I'm not going to give it more than 3 stars. 60%

Moosoodan (2016)

inglês This is probably one of the worst films I've seen from Korea in the last year. Absolutely shoddy visuals that don't resemble the country at all, the film is incredibly slow for 87 minutes and offers nothing interesting at all, and even though the premise had potential the director didn't use it at all. I really suffered after a long time and had trouble finishing the film. Didn't like it, didn't enjoy it. 25%

Ele Vem à Noite (2017)

inglês Excellent mystery thriller with elements of horror. It Comes at Night is set in a world ravaged by a deadly infection and centres on a family isolated from their surroundings in the middle of a dense forest ruled by the utterly fantastic Joel Edgerton, whose convincing performance sends shivers down the spine and whose rules are strict enough. But the family idyll is shattered when one desperate family arrives. There's no major violence, and I think there's only one scare, but the atmosphere of both the dense forest and the huge wooden house is absolutely sphincter-tightening. The soundtrack digs under your skin, the acting is top-notch, and visually the film is also top-notch, intense finale with goosebumps included. I had fun, a nice cinema experience. 80%.

Pilgrimage (2017)

inglês An interesting piece from an attractive setting and period, but it has no juice. There is not enough action for my taste, but it is brutal and the blood is not spared, and I give a thumbs up for it, and everything is dominated by the bloated Punisher, who has a great role again. Tedious and dull in places, flatter story-wise, but I’m giving it three stars for the grim visual atmosphere and the brutality. 55%

Homem-Aranha: Regresso a Casa (2017)

inglês This is the third reboot, so I wasn't that curious, I prefer newer characters, but still I wasn't bored and a few things surprised me, so I have no problem with a better rating. Tom Holland sat well with me in the end despite my prejudices, Laura Harrier is incredibly cute, Michael Keaton is a decent bad guy after a long time, and Robert Downey Jr. steals every scene for himself. As for the action, there is not that much and it's rather mediocre, which is one of the bigger criticisms, otherwise the humour was pretty good, the school setting was fine (I still expected more though), and there was one interesting unexpected twist which may well have decided the final rating. I liked it more than Doctor Strange and Guardians of the Galaxy, I would put Spidey in the category of slightly above average Marvel movies. 7/10.

Pesadelo em Férias (2017)

inglês At first impression, this film seems quite unattractive, but after half an hour it nails you to your chair and lures you into a very suspenseful survival crime drama, which reminded me of The Fugitive with Harrison Ford. The decent script provides a good dose of twists and turns, convincing performances, a realistic premise, plenty of suspense, and the sense of hopelessness where the main character's whole life is turned upside down in one night is shocking. A very good film 80%

Gongjo (2017)

inglês After a long time a decent action ride from Korea led by the so far unnoticed action star Bin Hyeon!! The plot isn't too complicated, it's a revenge film and a buddy comedy at the same time, which is a nice change of pace. Visually very decent, the action is great, especially the fights make you remember why I started watching South Korean movies in the first place. I liked the music and I laughed a few times, so I am pleasantly surprised, I didn't expect it. More action movies with Bin Hyeon, I really liked his badass look and talent in fights! 75%

Quan min mu ji (2013)

inglês A solid courtroom thriller from China. Playfully and engagingly shot with an intelligent script, clever direction and an unusual narrative style. The case seems absolutely obvious at first, but thanks to the twists and turns you have no idea who is really guilty until the last second and believe it or not, the reveal is more than surprising, Suspenseful, entertaining, fresh, intelligent and well acted. I recommend it. 80%.

Um Homem Chamado Ove (2015)

inglês Quite an overrated film that, although has some moral lessons, for my taste didn't quite hit the mark. The stubborn grumpy grandpa in the lead role disgusted with life and fed up with people was great and there were some funny situations, but overall my entertainment index stopped somewhere around 65%. Interesting piece of work anyway.

Transformers: O Último Cavaleiro (2017)

inglês That hurt. Transformers is really going downhill and it's one of the few franchises I've become sick of and I wish they wouldn't make another film. The two and a half hours drag on like a brick wall, Anthony Hopkins is annoying, the kids are uninteresting, the story is very flat, I have no idea what the hell was going on, the script is a mess, it's like the studio was scrapping and slapping in everything they could think of. There isn't that much action, and you watch the finale with an annoyed aftertaste and a sore ass. The only good thing is the opening battle with King Arthur, which had a hell of a lot of balls, and I really hope Michael Bay takes a break from the robots and serves us a proper medieval battle instead, where I believe he'd rip everyone's balls off. Unfortunately I didn't have much fun either, at least Isabel Moner was nice to look at. 45%
