Laputa (2015)

inglês Tereza Voříšková’s character is very real and believable, but it doesn’t help her much, she is stuck in a circle and her pub Laputa is full of Andy Warhol style artists. This movie is obviously made by artists for other artists. It is trying to be realistic, but it gets lost in the thoughts that will get immediately condemned by the average audience.

Obietnica (2014)

inglês It’s a good old European psychological drama with everything that entails, and I am not at all surprised Denmark contributed to it. It feels that despite their hygge approach, they attract those psycho characters because what is happening in this film is a real mess. The screenwriter Magnus von Horn apparently had a lot to say about the script. But if you put the story to Poland and add Polish actors and actresses, you can’t be disappointed. The Word is an absolute top and it is nerve wracking from the beginning to the very end. On the top of it all I would like to add that Dawid Ogrodnik is a genius. He is the best Polish actor nowadays. On the other hand… the newbie Eliza Rycembel did well too. It depends on your personal preferences but within Polish cinematography it is a solid A.

Avé (2011)

inglês In the first half of the film I was enjoying a solid road movie, I wasn’t sure where Anjela Nedyalkova and Ovanes Torosian are heading, but I was amused by their troubles, for example with German truck drivers. I got bored in the second half of the film so I started to wonder about how pretty the main actress Anjela Nedyalkova is and how far it could get her in her career. This movie is still a proof of how good Bulgarian cinematography is and that it is one of the best ones in EU nowadays.

Melocotones (2017)

inglês I am fascinated how the Dominican Republic made its debut into cinematography. The crew even had such self-confidence to make it huge and come up with a cool sci-fi premise. All right, it denies all the basic principles of the universe, but on the other hand it is very cool and enjoyable. And since the user Enšpígl liked it too, I expect no one in this database will be offended by its craziness. Definitely worth the try. And if you don’t like it, you can at least brag about seeing a movie from the Dominican Republic. And who has such a privilege, right?

Ramen Shop – Negócio de Família (2018)

inglês My first Singaporean film and it got me by how it portrays relationships and by one bowl of well-prepared Japanese ramen. And by ramen I really mean the famous Singaporean dish of pork noodles. I must add that the film as well as ramen are both extraordinary. There is a visible Japanese influence so you have to accept that there are plenty of scenes where emotions and feeling are expressed in a masochistic and depressing way… but overall, it is still a very nice and heartwarming movie.

Os Estranhos (2008)

inglês Here they are. A bunch of morons who put on masks and got a taste for killing. If not for the first fifteen minutes of the movie which made me turn off the film the first time I was watching it, it is a psychological horror with a good atmosphere that a horror genre fan can definitely appreciate.

Sensibilidade e Bom Senso (1995)

inglês By far the best film adaptation of any of Jane Austen’s novels. Ang Lee is a professional, so he didn’t leave anything to chance. He bet everything on the best British actors of that time and they rewarded him with unique performances. Hugh Grant, Kate Winslet, Emma Thompson and Alan Rickman did a great job, but it doesn’t mean the rest of the cast was any worse, absolutely not. The problem is the story itself which is too sweet for its own good. Everything is of course very theatrical and some of the characters are unbearable. I could see the director didn’t take it too seriously, so I quite enjoyed the whole 131 minutes of the film.

Three and Out (2008)

inglês A beautiful, very typically British drama comedy. Crazy characters portrayed by Mackenzie Crook and Colm Meaney, absolutely gorgeous Gemma Arterton and one wacky story, sharp humor and fabulous Celtic environment you simply have to love.

cartaz

Pasolini (2014)

inglês This movie was probably broadcasted after midnight with the intention to help even the worst night owls to fall asleep. I haven’t seen such a boring movie in a long time. Biographic films about filmmakers are usually filled with various references to their love of movies. Here it rather seemed as if Abel Ferrara wanted to take a revenge on Pasolini and he did everything to discourage me from the film.

O Outro Mundo (2010)

inglês If I didn’t know anything about gaming industry, I would even give this film 3-star rating for coming up with an original story. But I couldn’t help to think that the scenes from the game were off. Otherwise the movie itself was not completely bad.
