Biografia

Josué Méndez studied film and Latin American Studies at Yale University. He has written and directed the films Days of Santiago and Gods; he has also worked in the production of Paradise, The Bad Intentions, Oliver’s Deal, and Icaros: A Vision, which have participated in festivals such as Cannes, Venice, Berlin, San Sebastián, and Toronto. Days of Santiago premiered in competition at the International Film Festival Rotterdam and was subsequently selected in over 100 festivals all over the world, ultimately receiving over 35 prizes and becoming the most award-winning Peruvian film in history. It was Peru’s Official Selection for the 2004 Oscars® and represented the country in the Tous les Cinemas du Monde section at Cannes in 2005. In 2006, Josué was selected for the Rolex Mentor and Protégé Arts Initiative from among young directors across the globe, receiving two years of guidance from the British director Stephen Frears. Gods, his second feature, was developed at the Cannes Cinefondation and premiered in competition at the 2008 Locarno International Film Festival. It went on to participate in festivals like San Sebastián, Toronto, Havana, and Biarritz, where it won the Golden Sun. In Peru, he has directed in television, advertising, and theater. He has worked as a co-showrunner, co-producer, and co-screenwriter on the series El Chapo and is co-writing the series Tinta roja. He is the artistic director of the Lima Film Festival and a Rolex Arts Fellow.
