Edmond Murray (James McAvoy), divorced, has moved away from his ex-wife and 7-year-old son to pursue an international career. When the boy disappears, Murray rushes back to the Highlands. The subject matter and setting in the harsh, overcast north are great, and with McAvoy in the lead role, My Son has the potential to be a thrilling flick on a viewer-friendly theme. But it’s rather average in its execution. It starts off well and has solid plot development, but the climax is stupidly simplistic.
