A claustrophobic experience with irresistibly black-humour moments that actually make the whole thing even more realistic. As in Cube, Natali's direction revels in the facial shots, especially the bulging eyes, and whether you know the original story or not, you won't mind knowing what's going on. It’s just fun. And that ending!

An unsurprising but entertaining horror tale of a classic cut, though I can imagine a chase with a reanimated corpse in narrow underground passages in a different, separate and far more horror-effective version.
