Christopher Lee stars in this Hammer production as Father Michael, an excommunicated priest out to do the Devil's work. Having entered into a pact with the Dark One, Father Michael has agreed to secure a beautiful young virgin (Nastassja Kinski) to become Satan's child-bride. However, when an occult writer (Widmark) discovers the evil Father's plan, he lies his way into Father Michael's cult to save the young girl from bearing Satan's spawn. A rather lame answer to Rosemary's Baby and The Omen, probably interesting only for fans of Christopher Lee and B-movies of various kinds.

O Emissário do Diabo é praticamente o canto do cisne dos estúdios Hammer Films. É um filme decente do género, com um elenco impressionante (Richard Widmark X Christopher Lee = uma bomba), mas gostei mais dos dois primeiros terços do filme, nos quais é bem construída uma atmosfera sombria, do que durante o final, que dá a impressão de ser terrivelmente apressado e acaba por ser o maior anti-climax que possam imaginar. Seria bom se houvesse uma reviravolta memorável no final.

I don't think the British-German film To the Devil a Daughter deserves that much criticism, because there's definitely a lot of good to be found in it. Yes, the story isn't original and can seem a bit long-winded at times, but the final unravelling is brilliantly shot, including the excellent visuals. The performances of the two male leads only underscore the fact that this film is watchable.
