Brian De Palma limpou o pó de material tematicamente semelhante com que trabalhou em Corações de Aço, mas desta vez apresentou-o de uma forma mais atual, crua e semi-documentar, sem uma pitada de sentimentalismo ou belas composições de ecrã panorâmico e atores estrela. Censurado é o irmão menos sofisticado, mas emocionalmente mais poderoso do famoso Estado de Guerra que agrada menos ao público. É um filme que os americanos prefeririam não ver. Kathryn Bigelow mostrou os soldados americanos no Iraque como mártires e recebeu um Óscar, De Palma mostrou a verdade e foi ignorado.

DePalma extracted the best of Oliver Stone, stamped it with the hallmark of home video, and yet remained unusually his own. The viewer is thrown into the vortex of the plot and has to deal with many things based on his or her own opinion. True, in some moments he makes up for it by using schematic filmmaking techniques, but on the other hand, he created a film that, in my case, became a stimulus for longer-term thinking.
