inglês Jaroslav Havlíček won't be rolling in his grave, but he probably cannot resist shaking his head in annoyance. Not that Jiří Bělka's concept of the gamekeeper's villa lacks the appropriate level of discomfort and amazing camera work, which creates a perfectly creepy atmosphere with its "handheld" shots. Yet what is lacking here is the adaptation of the characters. A character like Soňa accomplishes her key and carefully built psychological development in a mere half hour (not to mention that Jaroslava Tvrzníková simply is not Soňa...) and Petr Švajcar, even though Luděk Munzar portrays him excellently with his determined gaze, is mostly just an engineer with a few unfortunate life twists. The opportunistic part of his personality is sorely missing. When that fateful and complex tragedy was then shortened or even neglected in the finale, I had to admit to myself that this highly acclaimed television work disappointed me. For those unfamiliar with the original, it may be an attractive spectacle, but I am unable to enjoy it. ()
