In 1970 hundreds of demonstrators pitched their tents near the Norwegian Mardola waterfalls. They wanted to prevent a power station to be constructed near the waterfalls. Never before had Norway experienced civil disobedience of this magnitude. For weeks on end the protesters bivouacked on the construction site, where they regularly clashed with the police, the local people and the construction workers. Finally the demonstrators were dragged away and the construction of the generating station could commence. This action received a lot of attention in Europe and had a big influence on activists' strategies in other countries. Fully in line with the spirit of the time, Kampen om Mardola presents a committed report of the ecological action. The filmmaker was inspired by the Latin American political film of the sixties.
