Dr. Egry Iván commits suicide in his hotel room. What we see is his story, a sequence of events from the very moment he first comes across the girl in the staircase, one who later introduces herself as Ralben Edit. Iván gets invited to her family's place. Edit is now Count Ahrenberg's fiancée. Iván soon proposes to her, and, until they actually get married, the see each other regularly in a small flat they rent in Buda. Edit, however, still has an affair with her former fiancé, which makes Iván try to split up with her. Nagy Józsa might possibly be a kind of compensation for him, but, being in love with Edit, he kills himself. (texto oficial do distribuidor)
