A high-tech, color remake of the 1968 black-and-white low-budget horror classic about corpses that come back to life as flesh-eating zombies and terrorize the Pennsylvania countryside. Following the original plot almost to the letter (with a few surprises thrown in), the film opens in a rural cemetery where the heroine Barbara and her brother are visiting the grave of their mother. The brother is killed by one of the zombies and Barbara seeks refuge in a farmhouse with six other survivors. While desperately trying to barricade the house against the zombies, the seven people inside fight among themselves, undermining their attempts to fend off the slow-moving, but relentless army of ghouls. Um remake decente. Não tenta superar o original a preto e branco, mas segue o seu próprio caminho, ligeiramente no estilo de filme B e menos ambicioso, mas muito mais divertido. Compensa os padrões do género de filme de terror moderno (e colorido) com um humor mórbido e uma brutalidade mais crua. Também agrada com a sua crítica à sociedade num clímax mais literal e até caricatural.

A worthy remake of Romero’s aged classic. The changes in the plot are probably for the worse, for instance, there are very few of the radio and TV reports that gave the original a touch of realism, but the make-up has improved, of course, thanks to which the remake will work better with the average viewer.
