The island of Guadalcanal may not be the first name that comes to mind when asked to recall the epic battles of World War II, but it's significance is greater than most people think. This program from the National Geographic channel illustrates how thin small island in the south Pacific witnessed some incredibly turbulent times during the heat of battle, culminating in over 50 sunken warships being laid to rest around the tiny coast. Acclaimed explorer Dr. Robert Ballard, who discovered the location of the wreck of The Titanic, leads an expedition to document some of the sunken ships, offering some spectacular sights as we plunge beneath the waves and discover a veritable graveyard of boats, which doubtless took more than a few crew members with them.
