Brother Yusef

Jazz has always been more than simply a form of music; it was – and is – a lifestyle, a creed, an expression of one’s origins. Jazz is black music that evolved in a white culture. Only a few of the great old masters of jazz are still alive today; one of them is saxophonist and composer Yusef Lateef. Today, at the age of 84, he lives a very secluded life in a small wooden house in the forests of Massachusetts. Filmmakers Nicolas Humbert and Werner Penzel visited him there and created an intimate cinematic portrait about the person and his music. (Doc Alliance Films)
