Numa visão contemporânea da história clássica, Jack Black é Lemuel Gulliver, um humilde funcionário da sala do correio num arranha-céus de Nova Iorque. Quando consegue, por meio de intrujices, a tarefa de escrever sobre o Triângulo das Bermudas, vai até lá mas é transportado para uma ilha desconhecida, Lilliput. Neste novo mundo fantástico, Gulliver é, finalmente, uma figura maior do que o tamanho natural - em tamanho e ego - sobretudo quando começa a contar petas, dizendo ser o autor dos maiores inventos do seu mundo e colocando-se no centro da maioria dos eventos históricos. A posição de Gulliver melhora ainda mais quando lidera os seus novos amigos numa batalha ousada contra os seus inimigos de longa data. Mas quando Gulliver perde tudo e põe em perigo os habitantes de Lilliput, tem de arranjar uma maneira de desfazer os danos. Finalmente, Gulliver torna-se um verdadeiro gigante entre homens apenas quando aprende que é o nosso tamanho interior que conta. (HBO Portugal)

More bearable than I expected, I even chuckled a couple of times, but not enough to recommend it – even slightly.

I was soooo looking forward to this movie! And to be honest, I was quite disappointed. Just the shortness of it suggests it was phoned in. An absolute appetizer and nothing more. It's a shame, because Jack Black really is a riot...

Occasionally, I find that the movie I'm watching is so incredibly stupid and repulsive to the point of festering that I don't care not only what happens in it and how it ends, but whether I even make it to the end. I couldn't do it with Gulliver's Travels. After half an hour I fell asleep in a rather awkward position, then I woke up during the end credits... And I didn't mind at all.

That was not nice. Jack Black is so extremely predictable in comedies that it's not pretty. He has nothing to offer in them, and the stupid script, where a romantic story had to be, even though it's perfectly unnecessary, doesn't add anything at all. A couple of fine actors who probably enjoyed the filming but didn't convey any of it to the audience.
