A.J. Manglehorn, serralheiro introvertido de uma pequena cidade, nunca recuperou da perda do amor da sua vida, Clara. Fixado nas suas memórias, sente-se mais próximo do seu gato adorado do que das pessoas que o rodeiam e prefere encontrar conforto no seu trabalho e nas rotinas diárias. Ainda assim, esforça-se por preservar as suas poucas ligações humanas, mantendo o contacto com o seu filho, com um ex-pupilo que se perdeu e com uma mulher de bom coração do banco local. Ao ver aproximar-se a possibilidade de um novo amor, este homem solitário vê-se perante o dilema entre ficar cristalizado no passado e abraçar o presente. (Alambique Filmes)

If you're not a fan of indie, the odyssey of Manglehorn will not be for you. A gloomy Al Pacino simply walks and stumbles through the whole movie, with the exception of occasional fits of anger, he goes on in his slow-paced minimalist style. And the longer he wallows in it, the more the film suits me, but it is not enough for more than a pleasant and unusual spectacle. It trivializes some problems too much and inflates a few little things disproportionately. Which is a shame in sensitive topic of loneliness in old age, when partners are gone, children are too grown up, and grandchildren are too far away.

It's a sad story, and in its finale, beautiful, but its execution is very ordinary. Yes, this is human life, and it can unfold like this, but without Al Pacino, who once again excels and showcases his greatness, it would be an easily forgettable film that you might overlook and not remember in the morning. I give a lot of credit for the acting, though.
