A young Irishman, Friend, travels to the edge of the Antarctic circle to replace the remote island’s previous meteorologist. The only other inhabitant of the island is the lighthouse caretaker, Gruner, a deranged brute, who has witnessed a horror he refuses to name. Cold Skin prova que ser um hábil talhante de filme não é o mesmo que ser um diretor geralmente hábil. Ou melhor, um diretor capaz de contar uma história complexa, por exemplo, com um desenvolvimento sensível do encontro de duas espécies. Cold Skin é uma mistura disfuncional, que Xavier Gens transforma gradualmente do horror da sobrevivência para um conto de fadas de fantasia com o coração. Mas no meio do filme, algo deixa de estar bem, e o resultado então evoca apenas um sorriso irónico. No entanto, o tema e o cenário de uma costa vulcânica selvagem tinha potencial, e dadas as opções de orçamento/desenvolvimento, poderia ser perdoada uma execução digital medíocre.

Feel free to think of me as a conservative cock blocker, but I'm just not that into this kind of interspecies intimacy. Farm animals don't attract me sexually, and the idea of my cuddling with an amphibian is out of the question. So, the film wasn’t my kind of thing in this respect, although, in real life, Aura Garrido's mom and dad should really be proud. The plot wasn't bad in itself, the actors were really making an effort, and because I like Lovecraft's short stories (I assume the writers were inspired by them), I would have given a higher rating if it hadn’t been so anticlimactic.
