It is always possible to look critically at war and the army. John Boorman also combined it with a sarcastic approach, making this film properly oppressive, properly humorous, and properly biting. However, it is only proper, it is not a bit harsher, not a bit deeper. And so the film remains primarily a critique with interesting characters, but truly heated moments are not present here.
