With hundred kilos on their backs they are facing storms, blizzards and deep snow. Their craft is not only a profession, but also their way to the calmness. In the documentary Freedom under Load we get to know the oldest generation of the porters in the High Tatras, who climb with supplies to the mountain huts every day. We discover why they have chosen this way of life and why they remain the last of the Mohicans on the European continent. And maybe we find out something about our own load that we carry. (K2studio)

Levar cargas para cabanas de montanha como um estilo de vida. A confrontação de memórias do mundo real do passado «lá em baixo» com os dias de hoje, a fazer o trabalho mais duro possível nas montanhas, é o núcleo deste documentário. Idosos que de forma nenhuma desistem do que fazem enquanto os seus corpos lhes permitirem fazê-lo. Porque os satisfaz mais do que, digamos, tocar numa orquestra na mais prestigiada sala de concertos do mundo. A sua sabedoria do conhecimento, da possibilidade de comparar, que poucas pessoas têm na vida (o que torna as pessoas insatisfeitas e muitas vezes infelizes, mesmo sem motivos para isso). A paz interior e a serenidade são a recompensa para estes lutadores por toda esta «faina maravilhosa».

A remarkably interesting documentary about porters from the Tatranská Kotlina. The things they carry in an incredible mountain elevation I would not be able carry to the other side of my garden. I bow down before them. After watching this documentary, I got the urge to go to the Tatras.
