"Die Tödliche Doris" was formed as a band by art students Wolfgang Müller and Nikolaus Utermöhlen in Berlin in 1980. In varying lineups the group also engaged in (performance) art, photography, film, video and literature before its dissolution in 1987. The band coined the term and style of "Geniale Dilletanten" (Ingenious Dilettantes), making the group's artistic identity a core issue of their work. "Die Tödliche Doris" challenged any attempts to label them with a consistent identity by probing into new, alternative options, thus transferring their ideas of supposed or claimed identities to a wide range of different arts and media. In this context, the Super 8 films by "Die Tödliche Doris" assembled in this program paint a vivid picture of the band's "friendly nature, their maliciously funny dada humor and their poltergeist audacity" (Chris Bohn). A great occasion to let your imagination run wild. (Viennale)
